The meeting, to be held in the Board of Education offices at 7 p.m., will be an update to the ongoing cleanup efforts of the Mill River as well as to provide a question-and-answer session, First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced.

“Once the cleanup of the Mill River is complete, this entire brownfield area, when developed, will not only serve as a welcome addition to our tax base, but will also make this site an extended part of our beautiful and vibrant downtown, unifying and enhancing this end of the Post Road and making it a more appealing gateway to and from Southport," Tetreau said.

During this meeting, representatives from the Exide Group, the owners of the property on the Post Road where the cleanup is taking place, and TRC Engineering, the firm that has been conducting the cleanup work on behalf of the Exide Group, will present information regarding work that was completed in 2015 and will give a preview of work planned for 2016.

Cindy Cook of Adamant Accord will be facilitating the public meeting. A question-and-answer period will follow.

In addition to Tetreau, representatives from the Harbor Commission, Shellfish Commission, Conservation Commission, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, staff from the Town’s Conservation and Public Works Departments and members of the neighborhood group FairPLAN will attend the meeting.
